Origins 01 - First Sunrise of the Year at Al's Resort

This set is part of my Origins series, where I look back at the music, places, and stories that shaped my journey as a DJ.

The music in this set is inspired by one truly beautiful and unforgettable New Year’s. COVID was just beginning to ease up, and while most borders were still closed, Thailand had opened “travel lanes” to a few countries — which meant our friends from Singapore could join us to celebrate in Koh Samui.

We packed our bags and headed to a friend’s resort on the island. It hadn’t reopened yet, so we had the entire place to ourselves. What followed was one of the most magical experiences I’ve ever had, and some of the best sets I’ve ever played.

This particular set brings me back to one special moment: sunrise. As the first light stretched across the ocean, the energy shifted. Most people weren’t even dancing — they were just still, taking it in, sharing quiet hugs when a song really hit. It was moments like these that confirmed to me that I had to be a DJ.
